Fifth grader, Isabella Marie, read a new book for me and wrote a review. After reading the book myself, I have to agree, it's a must read. I enjoyed it so much that it only took me a few hours to read. Check out her thoughts below.
“True Star Friends”
Are you interested in books about friendship and dogs? Whenever you start reading A Handful of Stars by Cynthia Lord you will never want to STOP!
Lily has a blind dog named Lucky. Lily meets Salma Santiago, a migrant worker, in the Blueberry Barrens. They become friends and find they share a love for painting and loss in their lives. As their friendship grows they help each other with their goals. Lily's raising money to pay for Lucky’s surgery. Salma is wanting to feel a part of the community and decides to be the first migrant worker to enter the annual Downeast Blueberry Festival pageant.
My favorite part is when Salma lures Lucky with a sandwich when he was running away from Lily. I like this part because Salma and Lily meet for the first time.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes dogs and friendship stories.
